Another Great Weekend
The Otters Bantam AE had another successful weekend of hockey this past weekend.
The boys showed a lot of character to come from behind and tie the game yesterday with less than a minute to go after being down by two goals with about 3 minutes left to play.
Well done players!! 6-0 and 1 is a great start so far.
Lets keep it rolling this week with solid effort at practice this week.
Go Otters!

Strong Start for Bantam AE Otters
The Dennis Groomes Roofing Bantam AE Otters are off to a strong start this season with a 5-0 record in Muskoka / Parry Sound league play.
The team opened the season with back-to-back games against the Bracebridge Bears on October 10th and 12th. The Otters came away with a 4-1 and a 10-2 victory over the Bears. Players scoring more than one goal over the two games included Daniel Taylor, Casey Groomes, Ted Logan, Noah Stevens, Daniel Lang, and Arjun Jindal. Goalies Linden Roy and Andrew McNeil were strong as they held the bears to a total of three goals.
The next weekend, the Otters played a home-and-home series against a strong team from Almaguin. Goal scorers for the Otters included Colin McDonald, Groomes, Logan, Kyle Ryan, and Jindal, with Curtis Bennett scoring twice. The Otters finished the weekend with a 3-2 and a 4-0 victory over Almaguin, thanks to strong defensive play by Ryan, Richard Middleton, Lang, Connor Martin, and Jindal. Roy registered his first shutout of the season, while goalie McNeil held off the Almaguin attackers for the 3-2 win.
The weekend of October 24-26 saw the Otters travelling to Collingwood for the regional Silver Stick Tournament. Play started early Friday morning with Roy in net against a strong team from Dorchester. Huntsville opened the scoring with 6:45 left in the first period on a goal by Scott Arlidge, assisted by Logan and Stevens. Going into the second period with a 1-0 lead, Huntsville opened the scoring at 9:23 on a goal by Jindal to give the Otters a 2-0 lead. With 7:54 left in the second period, the bigger, faster Dorchester team found their legs and scored three goals in under four minutes. Dorchester led 3-2 going into the third period and the Otters made a valiant effort to skate and shoot their way back into the game. When it was over, however, Dorchester left the ice with a 6-2 win.
The second game of the tournament was against the team from Mitchell. This one turned out to be a squeaker, with play moving up and down the ice and both teams having chances to score. After a scoreless first period, Stevens finally found the back of the net, assisted by Logan with 8:58 left in the second period. Huntsville led 1-0 going into the third period when Bennett scored for the Otters with 6:00 left on the clock. Assists went to McDonald and defender Lang. With Huntsville leading 2-0, the Mitchell skaters did all they could to put pressure on goalie McNeil. Finally, their hard work paid off and they got one past McNeil with 1:25 left to play. Mitchell put six attackers on the ice for the final 80 seconds, but strong play from defenders Ryan, Middleton, Lang, Jindal, and Justin House kept the Mitchell shooters off the board and the Otters won a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
The final game of the tournament was against a team from Mooretown. This was a tough one for the Otters who could not get untracked. Notable was the tight checking by both teams, with only twenty-three shots on goal between them, after an average of over 40 shots in the previous two games. Roy was strong in net, but Mooretown was able to push enough shots past him for a 3-0 win.
On November 8th, the Otters played in the team’s one-day tournament in Baysville. With games at 9:00 and 11:00, the Otters racked up a 6-0 win against Bracebridge and a 2-0 win against a team from Lindsay. Roy got his second shutout of the season, while McNeil registered his first. Goal scorers included Matt Janke, Bennett, Arlidge with two, Groomes, Tom Litchfield, Carly Gray, and Jindal.
Two wins put the Otters in the tournament gold medal game against the team from Essa. This turned out to be the most exciting game yet in the Otter’s young season. With Roy in goal, the teams played even through the first nineteen minutes. Both teams had scoring chances but the goalies turned them all away. With :59 seconds left in the second period, Essa put a shot behind Roy to take a 1-0 lead into the third period. It took more than seven minutes of back-and-forth play before Stevens, on an unassisted breakaway, beat the Essa goalie to tie the game 1-1. And that’s how the score stood at the end of regulation time.
With the gold medal on the line, the teams moved to overtime, playing two minutes of four-on-four and then two minutes of three-on-three. Strong goal tending at both ends left the teams tied and the clock was set for 20 minutes of two-on-two hockey. It took 90 seconds of that 20 minutes for Essa to finally power a rebound past Roy to give Essa a 2-1 win and the gold medal.
The Baysville tournament was a huge success for the Otters and for all the teams from out-of-town. The team thanks all those who helped and especially the local business who participated as tournament sponsors.

Order your team jacket
I will bring the team jacket samples to Baysville today along with order forms. Cost per jacket will be $70 to $75. The price includes an Otters logo.
We'd like to submit our complete order by next Friday so we can have the jackets soon. It is not mandatory to have a team jacket but we think they are great looking at a very reasonable price.
Please see me before the game today if you are interested in ordering one. Mens and Ladies sample sizes are also available to try on.

Pot Luck Friday Night
Laura is going to arrange a room for us to have at the hotel on Friday. This will enable us to have a pot luck on Friday night as a team. I am not going to assign who brings what as it usually works out! This is what pot luck is all about!! I will make sure that we have paper plates and napkins and utensils. Everyone bring their own drinks.
Skate Sharpening before the weekend
Everyone:
The otters skate shapening will be open at 6:45 on Thursday night. Ted Bionda is away hunting so this is your only option to sharpen you kids skates before the weekend. Please consider this as they could probably all use sharpening before the big tournament!!!

Week Two - Games
Two big games coming up this weekend. Are you guys pumped up? I know I am. We need lots of fuel in the tank -- so lets remember to fill the tank with with good food and proper rest. Check your bags before you leave for the rink! Lets intimidate our opponents from the time we show up at the rink - well dressed, well organised, pumped up and ready to kick some butt!
I've come up with a Bantam AE Otters Acronym - Here it is:
One disciplined hockey team
Toughest, hardest working team on the ice
Totally focused on our goals
Effort = rewards
Respect for ourselves, our team mates, coaches, referees and opponents
Self-motivated
Go Otters!!!

FUNDRAISING EFFORTS
We will be starting a new fundraising campaign selling Muskoka Roastary Coffee. These are great gift items for Christmas. This should be an easy sell and the more we sell the more money towards Montreal. Jodi House will have order forms ready for us to pre-order on Wednesday. We are also going to have a table set up at the tournament to sell bags - will need volunteers to man this.
Please make a good effort like our kids are doing on the ice!!!!

Sundays Game and This week
The Bantam AE won their 2nd game against Bracebridge in Hunstville on Sunday by a wide margin. It was great to see that all lines contributed to the scoring. All in all it was great effort put forth by all. Lets keep it rolling into this weekend as we have two games against Amalguin.
Please note that the Dryland for this week will be cancelled on Thursday a many of the boys have school basketball. We will resume the following week. Keep in mind players - this does not mean that you can't add in some dryland of your own this week. Better conditioning will make us a better team - especially in the third period.
